Non Negotiables
Sep 29, 2018Could you imagine going a day without brushing your teeth? Or washing your face? We do those things daily because we know they are good for us but also because they are habits. Things that we've done everyday for an extended period of time that are daily non negotiables.
What if you started implementing daily non negotiables that were based around your overall health goals? What if you did something each day that could get you closer to your goals? Closer to optimal health? It's totally possible! Creating daily non negotiables that revolve around health can be extremely beneficial to you. Of course it's going to take a little time and effort on your part as developing new habits can. With time and practice those behaviors will become habits (just as brushing your teeth is) and the benefits will pay off!
A few of my personal non negotiables are,
- Drink 1/2 my body weight in oz in water.
- Getting at an average of 50 hours of sleep a week. I say weekly because I work early morning shifts a few days a week so my nightly sleep is not consistent. However, focusing on getting more sleep on the nights I can helps me to average out to enough weekly sleep.
- Getting in my daily activity - whether this be my daily workout, coaching, or going for a walk some form of movement occurs daily.
Let's talk about how to start implementing some daily non negotiables into your routine!
First, keep it simple. Don't set a goal to eat 4 servings of vegetables each day because there are going to be days that it's just not possible. Instead, focus on smaller things that you know you'll be successful with.
Second, write it down. Just like with goals, writing it down makes it more concrete. Something to come back to or to be reminded of often. You won't always need that reminder as it will become a habit but having it written down at first will help you do it daily.
Third, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! In order to make it a habit, you must practice it daily.
Last, give yourself a pat on the back, toot your own horn and celebrate you! When a week has gone by with you doing your non negotiable everyday, celebrate yourself! When two weeks go by, share your win with a friend! When three weeks go by, toot your horn! Celebrate your accomplishments no matter how small they may seem.
Adding in those non negotiables can be so beneficial to your mind and body so let's do it! Remember, I'm always here to help so don't hesitate to reach out!!!
